FEEL THE ENERGY -
DON'T GET STUCK IN YOUR ONLINE WORLD
Have you ever participated in an expo or trade show? Each time I do I
feel the excitement and the energy of being out in the real world, face to
face with other work at home moms. Remember this feeling. Call upon it
when you are spending too much time hiding behind your computer.
While having a business, and bringing it online, many fall into the trap
of focusing only on the online quotient. Online connections are great,
but nothing can substitute the energy that is experienced when being one
on one with people. It not only brings you new contacts, but can
revitalize you and your business.
Make a point of seeking out the opportunities presented to you out in
the real world. Look for local trade shows, expos or boutiques to become
involved with. Join local women's business groups which will give you both socializing and
networking opportunities. Join a local church group or moms club. This is the
heart behind Moms Network, learning and connecting with each other. We have local exchanges all across the U S and Canada that meet monthly
to fulfil the needs of moms at home in business.
Working at home, and especially having a
business online can be isolating. Being isolated too much can cause both you and
your business to suffer. You may start resenting your business, especially when you
have a business that is online. You may feel there is no way to break away as people
have easy access to you via email and your website. Online business is a 24/7 situation
that can be very wearing on people. Your personal life and social life will also see
efffects if you are not taking the time necessary to continue building and growing
existing friendships and relationships.
Pay attention to where you are spending your
time and look for ways to get yourself away from the computer and out amongst others.
There are many resources and opportunites out there to plug into, and you should
stay connected for both your business and yourself.
DAMAGING YOUR
BUSINESS VIA EMAIL
We've heard it all before..... don't assume. But
sometimes it is easy to forget
out here in "cyber space" to live by this rule. E-mail tends to be an easy way
to express thoughts in a way you may not do otherwise. There are "tones"
that come across that I cannot imagine any women in business using if she were on the
phone with a customer, supplier, or vendor. These tones can be angry, condescending and
accusatory. And the sad thing is, many times the
person who is writing this does not have all the facts, or does not remember
the transaction or conversation that had originally taken place. This is where the
assumptions come into play.
Please remember to have your facts straight and always give the benefit of the doubt.
There is a virtue in being kind and gracious. If there is a misunderstanding, state first
how you understood what would or did transpire. Listen tothe other person's side with an
open mind and leave room for admitting to misunderstanding or misinterpretation.
The way you conduct yourself in e-mails will reflect on your business and can
either grow or ruin your reputation online.
DREAMS & GOALS
If you are like most people, you have dreams for
you and your business,
but sometimes have a hard time turning them into goals. Is there a difference? Yes, most
definitely. Many times our dreams are just that
.. thoughts and wishes
that we may have, but have yet to put into action. This is why it is important to come up
with specific goals and plans, a road map so to speak. Without this road map, you will
find yourself running in circles and wondering why you dont seem to be making any
progress. Goals keep you motivated, goals keep you on track and help you envision and
embrace your purpose.
It is really quite simple. First, take time to visualize your dreams. Ask yourself what it
is that you want for both your business and personal life. Now take those dreams and put
them into writing. You now have your goals. Once you have put your thoughts into writing,
it can make a world of difference in the way you perceive your dreams, perhaps making them
more obtainable.
Without specific goals and a game plan, your dreams will not become reality. Creating
goals each month will give new life to your business. You have a new target to aim for and
when your goals are attained, a new success to celebrate.
Take the first step in seeing your dreams come true by sharing your goals with other moms
or friends in business. There is a lot to be said about being held accountable to your
goals, by letting others know what they are.
