KNOW WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
Make sure you know what you are paying for. Far too often, I see people
spending money left and right on their business without stopping and asking "what
exactly am I getting?" Whether it be advertising, the latest and greatest sales aids
or a training course. Instead of jumping in and using your emotions to make a decision, do
your homework to make an educated one. Ask the right questions. For example, let's say you
want to advertise on the internet. Before putting an ad up, find out who the target
audience is for that site, how many page views are there? where will your ad be shown? is
there a place for you to get your statistics and click thrus? You may be paying too much
for too little. The same applies to advertising in newspapers and hard copy newsletters.
Get the figures and the facts before making a decision.
When you are spending and investing in your business, don't be shy in the questions you
ask. This is your hard earned money and you want to make it work for you as opposed to
wasting it on frivolous "business fads". Find out on products and services if
there is a money back guarantee if the company doesn't live up to what they promised you.
If you fail to ask the questions up front, if you don't fully understand what it is you
are purchasing, you will more than likely be surprised and even disappointed at the
outcome. Be responsible to yourself and to your business. Do your research and know
exactly what it is that you are paying for.
HELPING OTHERS = HELPING YOUR BUSINESS
Are you merely helping yourself as you go through the day or are you helping others? Are
you "me" oriented as opposed to "we, "others" or "us"
oriented?
Unfortunately, in this day and age, everything
seems to have come back to "taking care of me". Now, I am not at all suggesting
that you let your business suffer and ignore your own responsibilities. What I am saying
is that we need to open our eyes to see what people need around us and if we can help in a
small way, then do so. Try to remember back to when you first ventured out on your own. If
it was years ago you may not remember quite as well those moments of fear, doubt and just
plain being overwhelmed, but didn't you appreciate any help that was given to you? I would
bet that the people who tooktime out from their own busy schedules to offer you assistance
are the ones you remember best; almost as much as the ones who wouldn't give you the time
of day.
What sort of mark do you want to make? What sort of impression do you want to leave? What
you do and the way you treat people is associated with your business. Who would you be
more apt to do business with, someone you know who cares and has taken time to help
others, sharing their expertise, or someone who is self-centered and only worried about
the advancement of their own business?
What sort of reputation are you building? What would you like to be known for? If only for
today, remember the simple fact that when you help others, you truly are helping yourself.

someone who is just starting out. We can tend to get into a routine, which if we
aren't careful, can bring us into a slump. Another trap that many fall into is
thinking that they cannot learn from someone who hasn't been around the block, so to
speak. Sometimes those who are just venturing out have more to teach us than the
seasoned veterans. The mistake is thinking that they don't.
So, if you are feeling a little weary in your
business, hook up with a new business owner. Gain a fresh perspective, hear some new
ideas and let some of their excitement rejuvenate you.
